Prest. W. Woodruff Salt Lake City Dear Brother, We have been laboring under financial embarrassment in our academy the last two years and in consequence are in debt to the Tithing office $600.00 for produce drawn during that time. We are doing our best to continue the academy but under this load feel it quite a struggle. If it is not inconsistent with circumstances we would ask if you can see your way to appropriate this amount. With kind regards We are Your Brethren in the Gospel T E. Ricks Wm F Rigby Jas. E. Letter from Thomas Heddock Hilton, 4 December 1894

To The First Presidency Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brethern: Your kind favor dated Sept 15th is at hand, and the contents thereof have been perused with pleasure. We are all enjoying good health and the best of spirits, and are endeavoring to do the very best we can to perform our labors acceptably; trust- ing continually in the assistance of the Lord, who's power never fails His children in times of need. The reports of Elders from various parts of the mission are of a very encouraging nature, and I blelieve the day is not very far distant when many of this people will obey the Gospel. We are badly in need of a new cart harness, as the material in the one we have is of an inferior quality, and is indeed worthless in this climate. A little heavier harness with a collar #18 and harnes would suit our purpose best. Some of the coming Elders could bring it without any trouble. We are also very much in need of a little financial assistance. Ever praying for your welfare, and ^the^ prosperity of Zion, I am pleased to subscribe myself. Your most humble and obedient servant T. H. Hilton Harness should be kept well oiled in that climate. If we send another it should be home made. J. F. S.
