Letter from J. M. Tanner, 15 February 1897

LOGAN, UTAH, Pres Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake. Dear Bro. Some of the religious denominations have presented to the cCollege books treating on their religion. As the school is patronized almost exclusively by Mormons and as our cChurch works are often asked for, I write to ask if a set could not be sent us. No ex- ceptions could be taken if they were presented as in cases of other religious denominations. Trusting that I am not asking too much in this matter I remain, Your brother, J. M. Tanner

Letter from William Morton, 15 February 1897

Salt Lake City, Utah, . [upside-down text] (Our reporter has made Applycation to publish it in pamphlet form) [end of upside-down text] President Wilford Woodruff: Dear Brother: I have, in connection with thousands of the Latter-day Saints, read with great delight your discourse delivered at the Weber Stake Conference, Ogden, October 19, 1896, and published in the Deseret Semi-Weekly News of November 3, last. For some time after its publication your discourse was the chief topic of conversation among the Saints; it was also read in some of the ward meetings. Many with whom I conversed upon the subject ex- pressed a desire to see the discourse printed in pamphlet form, that they might be the better able to preserve it. Now, my object in writing is to ascertain if you would have any objection to your discourse being printed in a neat, pamphlet form, exactly as it appeared in the Deseret Semi-Weekly News. If not, it would give me pleasure to print the pamphlet. Awaiting your reply, I remain, dear Brother, your fellow-servant in the Gospel of Christ William A. Morton. 278 C. Street Salt Lake City.

Letter from Orson Smith, 15 February 1897

Logan, Utah, Dear Brethern I desire to acquaint you with what transpired in the seccond Ward last night. A Sunday school review was on for the evening. Bp Ballard and couns were there and Supt Jos Quinney had charge if the meeting. Mosses Thatcher came in a little late and Supt Quinney found him a seat. After the classes were through Quinney asked Mosses to speak, which he did for 35 mintes, and poured out all his troubles and conveying to all present that he was the injured party. The Bp was not consulted and supposed Mosses would simply commend the children for their efforts and sit down, and was much chagrined to hear a rehearsal of all his trouble. When he sat down the Bp arose and condemned Moses course and advised him as best he could . what he should do . to keep his standing in the church.
