March 17, 1897 ~ Wednesday

17 I spent the Day in the office we held a Meeting with our
coal company Corbit & Fitzsiomons held their fight
which was reported to us while they were fighting it
Ended by Fitzsommens whipping Corbit which waze not
Expected He received a Blow in the stomach which done

Salt Lake, Ut Pres. Wilford Woodruff Dear Brother: Yours of the 12th inst., notifying me of my call, as a missionary to Colorado, was received. In reply would say, I accept this calling, and will be ready by the 12th of April. You desired me to be ready by the 10th, but I think the 12th more suitable to me, if that date will be agreeable to you. I desire to thank you for this calling, as I think it a great honor to serve the Lord, in preaching the principle of the Ever-lasting Gosple to unbelievers

Richfield Utah. To the First Presidency Salt Lake City. Dear Brethren: In regard to the enclosed letter I wish to say, it is correct and the cause is a worthy one. I had a letter from Elder Lorin C. Woolley in regard to others of this branch, two Bros. Walker who are in a similar pos- ition. During my visit to Black- gum I found about twenty good members all in good standing, one only a cherokee and on whos right the others remained in the nation. The recent law being inforced will eject all intruders, they will have to leave. Bro. Pardue the Cherokee, his wife and wife's parents are financially able, to travel and move, but the remainder of the colony are not, consisting of those named
