Letter from Benjamin Cluff Jr., 22 March 1897

(DICTATED) President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: Permit me if you please to recommend the following named persons as suitable in the opinion of the leading members of the Faculty for members of the Board of the Brigham Young Academy. This Board, according to the articles of incorpora- tion is to be presented to the people on the 6th day of Pa^Ap^ril at their conference. And by these articles every member of the Church is made a stockholder in the Academy, without the issuance of stock. Permit me to say further that the present capacity of the Academy is taxed to its utmost, and that we are greatly in need of more room. Especially do we need a suitable building for the College department which was established last Founder's Day. There will be over 75, from that to 100 students enrolled in this department next year; and as the High Scholol department will need all of the room in this building, and the Primary School will need al l of the room in the Central Building, the task will devolve upon the new Board of supplying suitable quarterss for these higher quarters classes. In view of these urgent needs of the Academy, it is of the utmost importance that

Teasdalale To The first Presidency of the Chuurch of Jesus Christ of L. Saints. Dear, Brethern yours of the 18th to hand & noted. In reply, will say, as to my feelings regarding a mission, I am here on Earth to ^do^ fathers will as farm as it is possible. As to my circumstances are conserned I am sorry to say they are bad, I have made some mistakes in business & I am owing considerable With my own ability I can not get out of debt for 2 or 3 years to come. But the Loard may help me out sooner if I will do my part. I have my Land to proove upon betwen now & 1899. I have no stock to helpe me. I have nothing But team & wagon & farm which is not the best.
