Letter from Edward V. Silver and John T. Axton, 28 January 1898

Salt Lake City, . President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City. Dear Sir: The Ladies Auxiliary of the Young Men's Christian Association is planning for a "Soiree" and they are anxious to give it in the Gardo House if that historic structure can be secured. You probably understand the aims of the Association and know that it is the largest non-sectarian organization in the world. We are supported largely by public subscriptions and it is a benefit that the ladies are planning for, something along the line of that given by the Mutual Improvement League at the Gardo House last September. We saw Mrs. Trumbo about the matter and learned from her that they were no longer in possession, hence write you. Commending the matter to your consideration and assuring you that the courtesy would be thoroughly appreciated, we are, Yours very respectfully, Edw. V. Silver, President. John T. Axton Secretary.

Letter from Thomas Edwin Ricks and Thomas Bassett, 28 January 1898

Pres W. Woodruff Salt L. City Utah Dear Brother: We enclose herewith communication from Elder Don. C. Driggs explaining itself. If the arrangements are as he states we have a misunderstanding of the case Our impressions were that no one of our missionaries to Montana were to be called for only three months with the exception of those who had previously had an experience in the missionary field. When Bro Jone Henry Smith was here at our late Stake Conference Bro Drigg's name was suggested for a mission to Montana but on account of his business interests he was allowed a certain length of time to make the necessary preparations. We are not posted as to whether any other arrangements have been made by Bro John Henry or yourself, and would be pleased to know
