Wed Feb 16. I went to the office. Rec a letter from Owen stating that he & his
mother expected to return on Friday next. I wrote to M. I am feeling
better today, & returned home at 4 pm

Letter from Joseph Marion Tanner, 16 February 1898

President Wilford Woodruff, Box B., Salt Lake City. My Dear Brother: For some time past Prof. Widtsoe of this College has been engaged in the preparation of a con- cordance of the Doctrine and Covenants. I learned in conversation with him, that his work was now near- ly completed; that it has been a work of love prompted by a necessity which he felt for such a reference in the work pertaining to his Elders' Quorum in the pres- idency of which he is a Counsellor. I have not ex- amined the work, but Prof. Widtsoe is one of the most eminent scholars of our State, and has no doubt given to this work that talent and ability which would make it a valuable appendix to the Doctrine and Covenants. In conversation with him yesterday, I learned that he would gladly donate this work to the Church if the authorities felt that it would be valuable to them. It is prepared in a somewhat elaborate and comprehen- sive manner and is in good condition for the press. I have taken the liberty of writing this letter by
