I spent the day at Utah Lake

January 2, 1874 ~ Friday

2nd We drove to Battle Creek took dinner at Brother Ashtons then
drove to the point of the Mountain there we met a furious snow storm
we spent the night in an open House 30 M[iles]

January 3, 1874 ~ Saturday

3rd We drove to Salt Lake City & I spent the night at home 25 M[iles]

January 4, 1874 ~ Sunday

4. Sunday I Attended the funeral of Sister Phelps the wife
of W^m W Phelps she was killed instantly By a shutter
Blown from the roof of a tin shop in a gale of wind J F. Smith
spoke followed By W Woodruff & John Taylor I met with
the Twelve in the Evening

January 5, 1874 ~ Monday

5. I drew 2 tons of coal for my family & attended the school
in the Evening

January 6, 1874 ~ Tuesday

6. I went to the farm & spent the night 6 M[iles]

January 7, 1874 ~ Wednesday

7 I butcherd 2 Hogs & cut them up & went to the farm in the Evening 6 Mils

January 8, 1874 ~ Thursday

8. I returned to the city went back to the farm carried a grit to Mill
returned to the city & spent the Evening at the Female Relief Society
in the 16 ward. we had & speeches made 12 M[iles]

January 9, 1874 ~ Friday

9. I received 6 Letters from Azmon, Phebe, Saxe, &c
I wrote 3 Letters to Saxe, Leverett Woodruff, & W^m Picket
Mrs Woodruff was quite sick I laid Hands upon her

January 10, 1874 ~ Saturday

10. I spent the day at home choreing I took a severe cold

January 11, 1874 ~ Sunday

11. Sunday I met with my Quorum at Noon & with the Twelve
in the Evening I was quite unwell all day

January 12, 1874 ~ Monday

12 Jan 1874. The Legislature of the Territory of Utah met to day
& organized. My son Brigham Y. Woodruff was appointed
Messenger in the Council we Appointed L Snow our Presid[en]t

January 13, 1874 ~ Tuesday

13 We Met in Joint session & received the Govornors Message

January 14, 1874 ~ Wednesday to January 16, 1874 ~ Friday

14, 15, & 16. I spent the time in council & on committies
