[Discourse at Conference held in the Bowery in Logan, Utah on ] {Elder Wilford Woodruff Brothers and sisters good morning I am glad to see you all and have the privilege of meeting with you in the capacity of a conference and I hope what time we spend together here we may enjoy the Spirit of the Lord that our minds may be led by the Spirit of the Lord as shall be according to the mind and will of God[.] I have thought many times in meeting with the saints in these valleys of the mountains that if the veil was taken off from our eyes and comprehend our position and the blessings which we enjoy we could feel very different from what we do[.] many those of us who have been congregated here for many years cannot realize the position and blessings which we enjoy as a people[.] we do not realize the difference between our position here and those who surround us and the country from whence we came[.] we have a great many blessings as a people we may say the greatest blessings which is bestowed upon any people upon the face of the earth[.] we have not only had light and truth revelation communicated unto us to comfort our hearts but we are placed here in these valleys of the mountains in peace[.] well these are great blessings[.] we should prize them as a people and especially you people here in Cache Valley you have one blessing that many of us do not enjoy you have plenty of water and plenty of wheat and the products of the earth[.] we have been told by Brother Kimball and others within the last few years and we have been exhorted by all Presidency to lay up our grain[.] well a famine is one of the things that we have been looking for[.] it will follow war and pestilence and the earth has got to meet that judgment[.] well I have been thinking of it as we have been in Davis County Brother Kimball has a mill and they have to go half mile above his mill to get a drink of water[.] well our crops are consequently being cut short[.] well I observed this as I came through your valley you have plenty of water and you ought to prize this blessing and if the Lord do not dry up your streams and lay up against a time of need[.] well I do not know what I shall say in my remarks but there is a deal might be said in regard to the kingdom of God[.] the Lord requires a great many things of us and the greater our blessings the greater will be our responsibilities to the Lord[.] the Lord will hold us responsible for all the blessings that he has given unto us[.] he will hold us responsible for the gospel which he has revealed unto us for the use we make[.] he will hold us responsible for the holy priesthood and the use we make of that and he will hold us responsible [for] all the truths of light and faith that has been given unto this people}
