Letter from Creighton Hawkins and Riego Hawkins, 4 September 1889
To President Wilford Woodruff, Dear Brother, In november last my Brother and I bought a one half interest in J. M. Leflers flouring Mill. to pay for which we mortgaged a five acre lot. we enlarged and remodled the mill placing new machinery therein and changing it from the burr to the roller System. in doing so we einvolved ourselves heavily, being about $5000.00/100 in debt and we find ourselves unable to meet our obligations as they become due. Under these circumstances we have been endeavoring to sell our interest in the mill and redeem our property but have been unable too thus far. We are now likely to loose our five acre lot and also the mill unless we can make a turn soon. Bro John W Young, has offered us between 1,900 and 2000 acres of land in Mexico for our half of the mill. if we exchange with him we will have to
Letter to George Orrin Pitkin, 4 September 1889
Salt Lake City, U. T. . Acting Pres. Geo. O. Pitkin, Logan. Dear Brother: We have received from you some recommends for certain parties for second anointings. In regard to these matters we have given instructions verbally at meetings and in some instances have written to the brethren. That you may not have received any written word on this subject, I will say that it is not expected that the Bishops will make recommends for this ordinance. The instructions which have been given on this subject are, that the Presidency of the Stake, as they shall find from time to time in their Stake those brethren who are aged, and who have been faithful in the Church during their lives, and through their untiring energies have proven themselves worthy of this blessing, will take note of such cases, and, through the President, will submit to me the names of such persons and their wives, both living and dead, who have also been worthy and faithful as such wives, for consideration. In forwarding to me their names I must have the age, in years, of each one named. It is not expected that any person will be informed of what action is being taken until after their names are approved and their recommends endorsed by me. Faithful and worthy brethren who have died without this blessing should be remembered, with their wives, in this connection.

Salt Lake City, Utah, Presidents Wilford Woodruff and George Q. Cannon Dear Brethren Your attention is respectfully invited to the fact that the Utah Sugar Company is now organized and that a meeting of the Board of Directors will be held imme- diately. Would ityou favor the enterprise so much as to attend the first meeting of the Board? Would it suit your convenience for that meeting to be Thursday (tomorrow) at 4 P.M.? Would you permit it to be held at the "Presidents" office? Your immediate reply is respectfully requested Very sincerely your brother Arthur Stayner
