Letter from George Teasdale, 10 November 1890
Dear President Woodruff: I wrote you last from Deming Oct 21st, posted it about the time we left there about 3:30 in the afternoon Bp. W. D. Johnson, with his buggy and his first counsellor Morten P. Mortensen with his wagon, carried us and our boxes & baggage. We were out two nights and two days and a half. The weather was delightful, sunshine in the day time and moonlight at night. We made long drives to accomplish the journey in so short a time. We arrived here on Thursday night 23rd of Oct[ober]". The Bis- hop had made arrangements with Sister Almira Hen- dricks to take care of us for a few days until a place could be prepared for us and we stayed there ten days and then moved into a partly furnished house belonging to B. S. Richardson who is away visiting relatives and friends in the North. On Friday 24th we were invited to attend a Social gathering at the Meeting House. The Bishop called for us in the evening and we accompanied him to the Meeting House. The building was elegantly decorated and illuminated with many lamps. Pictures and portraits of the authorities were hung around the room and festoons of greenboughs and flowers. Over the Stand in block letters was the Word Welcome in large letters of tin with natural flowers sewn on and at the back of the stand hung a large Mexican flag and heavy festoons of flowers and greenboughs interspersed with portraits of the

No. 45, Vol. LII. Monday, . Price One Penny. GENERAL CONFERENCE. -[CONTINUED FROM PAGE 694.]- AFTERNOON SESSION. 2 p.m. Singing by the choir. Prayer by Bishop Orson F. Whit- ney. The choir sang. The Sacrament of the Lord's Sup- per was administered, the priest- hood of the Twentieth Ward offi- ciating. President Wilford Woodruff ad- dressed the Conference. Following is a synopsis of his remarks: I know not how long I may be able to talk, but while I do I want the attention of the congregation. The Saints have often heard me testify concerning the power by which this Church has been established. I have no power, nor have these apos- tles, to preach the Gospel and build up the kingdom of God, except by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. Whatever testimony we bear to be productive of good, must be by the Spirit of God. We live in the great- est of all dispensations, and there are many things which the Lord has withheld from the foundation of the world, and which have never before been revealed to man, which will be revealed to the Saints of this dispensation. Every dispensation of the Gospel has had its work, and at no time has God ever set His hand to do a work among men, without having an ele- ment prepared to work with. This is true of this dispensation. God has raised up a prophet in this age, and to him sent messengers who had once lived in the flesh. The Lord raised up Joseph who was sold into Egypt, and who did the work appointed to him. So the Lord raised up Joseph Smith, at the time set for him to appear and perform His work, and to him He revealed the same Gospel which was revealed to Abraham and Moses and to the prophets. It is the only Gospel God ever revealed to man. In ful- fillment of the revelations of St. John, and other Scriptures, this Gospel was revealed to Joseph Smith. It cost him his life to pro-
