Letter from Samuel Ryser, 30 October 1891

Salt Lake City, . President Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Dear Brother In reply to yours of the 26th Inst, notify ing me that my name had been suggested and accepted as a missionary to Scandinavia. Will say the only obstatle in the way of responding to the call at present is my financial condition which is a follows. I owe on my land (my Home) 500" I [owe] the Zions Building Society for mony borrowed to build my house. 1000- I owe for labor on [my house.] 50 I [owe] for cash borrowed elsewhere 75 [Total] $162500 My monthly dues with interest which I have to pay Zions Building Society amounts to $3300 per month. I have a wife of weeakly constitution, and six children depending upon me for support. The oldest of my children is 14 Years of age The above states my condition, which is respectfully submitted for your action Your Brother in the Gospel Samuel Ryser The above statement is correct, Elias Morris Bishop Fifteenth Ward P.S Bro Ryser is a German.
