Letter from Isaac Smith, 24 November 1891
Logan City, Utah. President Wilford Woodruff and Councillors Salt Lake City Dear Brethren; I take the liberty to address you on a matter (to me) of considerable importance. It is concerning Prest Orson Smith of our Stake. Prest Smith, previous to his present appointment, had been on the "dodge" considerably owing to the laws of the land, as you well know. He had a good farm at Paradise; (14 mi from here) this was mortgaged, when ^He was^ chosen President of this Stake. He then bought a Lot here ^in Logan^ and built himself a Home. He had a sell his farm to pay his debts, he has had nothing much to do for the year past, his time being largly taken up in his stake duties, as a consequence he is in very straightened circumstances. The amount given by the First Presidency for the Presidency of the Stake is divided as follows Orson Smith $80000 Simpson M Molen $400.00
