Letter from George Chandler Parkinson, 29 March 1894
Franklin, Idaho, Prest. Wilford Woodruff and Counselors' My Dear Brethers: In an interview with Presidents Cannon and Smith on Feby 10 [18]94 I represented to them the present financial condition of the Oneida Stake Academy and the probable cost of finishing the building and solicited their counsel as to the advisability of our making application to the Trustee-in-trust for assistance. They recommended that I first examine the tithing returns for the year 1893 and advise you as to the amount of available tithes on hand in the stake and also offer any other information I may consider of use to you on this matter. I therefore submit the following for your consideration and earnestly pray that some way may be opened up whereby this great burden may be lightened to that extent that the saints of the stake may be able to carry the balance and finish the building this year. We are owing to Thatcher Bros Banking Co. of Logan $150000 to the merchants of Preston and Franklin $2000.00 and to workmen and others $70000 making in all $420000 It is estimated that it will take between $5000 and $6000 to complete the building and prepare it for dedication.

I got ready as soon as I could and came here and now I have been taking the M.I.A. course several weeks, but for some reason or other you had failed to send my name in on the official list, please
