Letter from Philip Henry Margetts, 14 May 1894
Preston, Idaho, Prs. W. Woodruff Dear Brother In reply to your favor, calling me aon a mission to the Indian Territory, will say I cheerfully, respond, and will be on hand, at the appointed time Sept 1st. I have neglected my calling in the past, but I am trying hard, and have for the past three years, to again prove myself worthy ^of^ the Fellowship of my Brethern, and I feel that a little experiance in the missionary Field would do me good, and be of benifet to me, and if you consider me worthy, (al^t^hough I am short of ready means) I will make some turn, and try to fill this call honorably. Trusting this may meet your approval, and awaiting your further acommands, I am your Brother in the Gospel Philip. H. Margetts I hereby certify that the above statement is correct & I would suggest that he be accepted, to fill this Mission. W. C. Parkinson Bp. Preston Ward All right. Indian Ter. J. F. S.
Letter from Abraham Owen Woodruff, 14 May 1894
Prest. Wilford Woodruff Dearest Father: Your letters of April 24th and 25th with your private com- unication to me inclosed, were received yesterday. You cannot realize how highly I esteem your good opinion of me and my greatest desire is to fullfill your wishes. But let me say a word to you Pa. It is not always easy to do what is wright in this world and I am sorry to say that my past life; when younger, was not a spotless one. Notwithstanding this God knows my heart and knows if ever a man was sorry for wrong doing, or evil doing, I have been and am. You say you have written me what is Gods will and what is your will. I know Father you are a man of God and what you have written me has made a deep impression upon my heart & you may be assured will never be forgottoen as long as life shall last. You can realize how unworthy I feel but all things are possible with our Heavenly Father and he is able to make of me what he will. I feel my unworthyness very keenly for God knows if there ever was a weak stick it is me; within myself I am unable to entertain such a hope but will exhert every power I have to fulfill my order and all other which you place upon me. There are many others that I feel are more deserving than myself. How oft have I wished that the power might be given me to live as pure a life as my
