Journal Entry

June 15, 1897 ~ Tuesday

June 15th Had a fairly good night. After breakfast drove to the office
I wrote a letter to Madam Mountford & mailed it. quite busy until
4 pm. when I went home. With my wife Emma I attended a social
gathering at the residence of Bro John R. Winder this evening. Prests Cannon &
Smith & some 70 others were there. They had a nice agreeable time.
Bro Winder has built quite a large room adjoining the south side of his
house, in which he says he can get together his family & some of his
friends occasionally. Many of the ^lady^ Temple workers were present.

Letter from Peter S. Christiansen, 15 June 1897
President Wilford Woodruff Box B. Salt Lake City, Utah Dear Brother! I send you today, under an other cover, a lithographic picture of yourself, which I by the approbation of the leading brethren have made (being a lithographer myself and working in that trade) as many of the saints have expressed their desire of having a good and lasting picture of our venerable leader to adorne their home. I have also hope of pecuniary interest as I long for the day when I and family can gather with the saints of God in the peaceful vales of Zion, and it being impossible for me to get there by the earnings from my dayly labor, hence I have ventured this little enterprise and hereby ask for your approval. your humble brother in the gospel of Christ. Letter from George Chandler Parkinson, 15 June 1897
Preston, Idaho, Prest. Wilford Woodruff and Counselors. Dear Brethren: A few days ago elder L. A. Lamont, of this place, called in to see me about his mission to the Southern States to which he has been recently called. He represents that since writing to you, he has considered his circumstances more carefully and desires to make the following representation: He is owing for ^a^ new wagon and an interest in a saw mill to the amount of 30000 and besides that his home, which he values at $150000, is now under mortgage for $40000 which mortgage falls due in about one year from date. His crop of grain this season will not clear off these accounts, and while his creditors are willing to wait and he is willing to go now if it is thought best that he should I believe it would be better to allow him to stay at home for one year, in which time he thinks, and it appears reasonable to me, that he can pay off his obligations and leave his family in a more satisfactory condition. After furnishing you with this information Bro. Lamont is perfectly willing to leave the matter to your wisdome and will cheerfully abide your decission. Your Brother Geo. C. Parkinson Let him have a year with our blessing & prayers for success. J. F. S.
