November 03, 1897 ~ Wednesday

Wed Nov 3rd Bro John Clark is elected as mayor of Salt Lake City, and 13 out of 15
of the council elected are members of the Church. Went to the office and was
buzy all morning. attended a meeting of the Directors of Z. S. B. & T. Co at 1 p.m &
afterwards attended the funeral service of the late Sister Clark, wife of Bro John
Clark at residence. Bro R T. Burton, & Prests Joseph F. Smith & George Q. Cannon
& myself were the speakers. a quartette furnished the singing. services were
conducted by B[isho]p Geo. Romney who also made a few remarks, & Elder Angus M.
Cannon offered the benediction. I did not go to the Cemetery but returned
to the office, and went home at 4 pm. Rained this afternoon & evening.

Letter from Willard Done, 3 November 1897
To the First Presidency, Dear Brethren: I have the honor to report on the series of tracts submitted to me for review. I have read them twice with care, and have suggested such verbal changes as have seemed necessary. There has appeared to me no reason for change in their essential elements. It did seem at first that some of the sharp, incisive points could have been softened down a little, to some advantage, but Brother Penrose informed me that they formed an essen- tial element, demanded by the peculiar purpose for which the tracts were writ- ten. I can say that in my opinion the tracts form an excellent series, well adapted to the introduction of the Gospel in the world. They have my most hearty commendation. Trusting they will accomplish the purpose for which they were written, I remain Yours in the Cause of Truth, Willard Done
