February 22, 1846 ~ Sunday

22nd A humanoid Sunday A child about 10 years
of Age A Daughter of of Mr
Brown died on board last night And
it is expected the corps will be
buried in the sea this Afternoon
the sea is rough this morning
we have A Northerly wind we
cannot run within several points
of our course

At half past 11 oclok the corps was put
in a wooden box similar to A coffin
boared with holes to fill with water

the coffin had stones in the foot of
it to sink it. it was then slid into the
sea from a board feet foremost at a
signal from the captain but it did
not sink but we saw it swiming
near half a mile from the ship
the parents of the child was catholic
And there was no service performed
over it by request of her parents
