Discourse 1847-09-05
W. Woodruff rejoices to see so many of our friends in this place. bears testimony to the [c] of God being visible to us, as much the pillar of Fire & cloud by day to Israel of old. We [h]av[e] [h]ad much teachings from our prest. as to the land I am [d]isappointed for the better, you av hot & cold & warm & salt springs. W[e] av always a variety bef[ore] [yo]u, & where you can worship God without fear of any. I felt well all the time I was there. We av labored hard. I sa[y] to my bre[thre]n & sis[ters] I av peculiar feelings. I am det[ermine]d to keep the commandments of God. every one who goes in that valley will av to be riteous. if u pollute that land the L[or]d will scourge you. be humble, be faithful. do these things that [a]r[e] riteous. We av been driven from city to city place to place. & now we av found the home of the Saints. & obey the council given unto you. when I look at the last few months & now see the plains covered with wagons tents & cattle. I av no fear but we shall prove a blessing to each other. & av enough to eat & wear. I rejoice to see so many. we av set the pattern as the heart of one man. We av killed the snakes, & made the roads, & every son & Dau[ghte]r of Israel will rejoice at this journey & I feel to bless u in the name of the Lord. be merciful to your beasts & take care of them. when you receive the Epistle I hope you will go to work & carry out the things therein cont[aine]d, & ma[y] the blessings of the Lord rest upon you.
