Discourse 1857-02-03
Wilford Woodruff backed up the sentiments just advanced, he felt that it was the duty of the Bishops to attend to their temporal duties, which was the leading ideas of Bp Hunter, the responsibilities resting of the Bishops are great, especially as so many of the brethren are now taking more wives, they will require at your hands much council on the principle of obedience, for unless children are taught to be obedient to their parents, they will be- come poor Husbands and wives. It was the duty of the Twelve that are at home to follow the example of Prest B Young to walk into the different quorums to give instruction, and see how things are going on, for it was not only their right, but God required it at their hands; he wished the Bishops would hold on to the members of the quorums of Priests, Teachers and Deacons that are good for anything, and not allow them to go off into the seventys until they have magnified their calling in the lessor priesthood, but he deprecated a contentious spirit between the different quorums, as to which was the greatest, this had been a bone of contention since the beginning, and ought to be put a stop to, after giving some valuable instruction on this subject, he prayed that God would bless us all.
