Gentlemen:
From my con-
versation with Dr. Talmage I under-
stand that the small appropriations
made to the University of Utah by the Legis-
lature may cause you to feel that the
conditions are such as to make doubtful
of the advisability of suspending the
church University, and that owing
to the retrogressive condition of that
institution and its uncertain future
Your communication to me may not
stand. As this matter involves my personal
interests and as the meagre funds of the Uni-
versity will necessetate immediate action
on the part of the regents, I would deem
it a very great favor if you could immediately
render a decision in regard to it. I shall
await with pleasure you very earliest
