Letter to John Daniel Thompson McAllister, 28 February 1888
Salt Lake City, U. T. . Prest. J. D. T. McAllister and Counselors, St. George Stake. Dear Brethren: We have received your letter of the 17th inst., in which you mention the selection of Bro. Augustus P. Hardy as Bishop for the Lamanites in that region. Your letter was submitted to the Council of the Apostles, and it was decided that Brother Hardy should not be appointed Bishop until more was known concerning him. Letter from William Budge, 28 February 1888
Prest. W. Woodruff Dear Bro: There was from the settlement of this valley, as in other places, an accumulation of tithing indebtedness by the people, who were charged with amounts which they did not always pay, until it amounted to near $16000.00 in the entire Stake, at the time when we stopped charging the people more than they actually paid. In the year 1884, President Taylor kindly offered us this amount, or as much of it as we could collect, for the benefeit of our Stake Tabernacle. We have collected a portion of this back tithing yearly, and have received G.T.O. orders in our favor for the years 1883, 1884 and 1885; the amount collected for back tithing for 1886 is $1755.40 in the following items: Building Material 70.48 Cash 149.44 Dairy 55.89 Grain 100.51 Hay 15.98 Labor 85.28 Mdse 23.30 Meat 9.24 Stock 1234.08 Vegetables 11.20 $1755.40 If all right please send us a G.T.O. Order for the amount. Very Respectfully Your Bro; &c. William Budge OK W W
