Journal Entry

October 04, 1897 ~ Monday

Mon Oct 4th Felt well this morning, drove to the office, thence to the Tabernacle and attended
the 68th Semi annual conference of the Church at 10 a.m. myself & counselors also apostles
L Snow F D Richards, F. M. Lyman, J. H. Smith, Geo Teasdale, J W Taylor, M W Merril & A H Lund were present.
Prayer by A. H. Lund. after singing I spoke 3 min[u]t[e]s, followed by A H Lund 15 min, M W. Merrill
26 min, J. W Taylor 24 min, & Geo Teasdale 22 min. benediction by Patriarch John Smith.

Conference again at 2 pm. Apostle B. Young present

Prayer by John Nicholson. John Henry spoke followed by F M Lyman and
B. Young. benediction by B. H. Roberts. Drove to the office for a short time & then home.

Wilfred Woodruff Dear Brother you ask mee to take a mission to the southern states witch I would bee glad to do if my circumstance would permit but I have taken a place and I ^have^ not been able to prove up an it yet and I am in debt for my fencing. Letter from Elias Peterson, 4 October 1897
Pres. Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City, Dear Brother: Your letter of Sept. 27th, calling me on a miss- ion to Colorado, reached me the next day. I answered the letter the same day, but as my Bishop lives eighty five miles from Provo, I had to send it home, first, to be indorsed. Somehow, my letter was delaid for three or four days; consequently my answer to the call was not sent when I reached home.
Letter from Luther M. Terry, 4 October 1897
Hebron, Utah, Oct. 4, 1897. Pres. Wilford Woodruff. Salt lake City, Dear Bro, Yours of Sept. 27th at hand, notifying me to fill a mission to the Southern States. and in reply I will say I feel very weak in attempting to perform such a great labor as that but by the help of the Lord I will go and do the best I can, And will be there ready to start at the date me- ntioned December 16, 1897. Sincerely your Brother in the Gosple, Luther M. Terry. P.S. The Bishop is not at home and I would have to wait a week, so will send this now L. M. T.
