Letter to Asahel Hart Woodruff, 6 November 1886
Salt Lake City, Utah,
My Dear Asahel
I write to say we arived here
this Morning at our Destination at 2 oclok by
ho having travelled all Day, & untill 2 oclok
this morning, to get the Last 40 miles. the
white mare got hurt in some way at the spanish
firk [fork] in her hind Ancle and Leg and became
to Lame to travel. We left her at Leeds
18 miles North & got another Horse We arived
all well Except weary we travelled 40 miles
a Day most of the way We are all well as usual
We got word to day of the sickness of Mother
Martisha Smith and perhaps her Death which
has made your Mother feel bad but we
have not yet heard of her Death. We found
quite cold weather on the road but it is
more mild here it will take your Mother
some time to get rested. We were all weary the
Horse had several sprees in Starting in the Morning
but Nothing serious. We want all the children
to be careful about stateing any thing where we
